The cultural institutions invites you to a sparkling Festival of Lights in Roskilde's town centre Friday the 3rd of november!
The Sun is low in the sky, the shadows are long and cold winter days lies ahead. But in keeping with tradition, we are fighting against the darker days and meet up Friday on the 3rd of November to light up the sky, make noise and keep the darkness away!
Enjoy a magical evening where the city's alleys, spaces, towers and squares get wrapped up in lights, sounds, activities and a magical parade.
Welcome to the Festival of Lights at “Kulturstrøget”, Friday the 3rd of November at 5-9 PM. It is free to join.
Makeup workshops and bright sparklers
We warm up to the parade with makeup workshops from 3 PM at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Roskilde Museum, where children can be painted with planets, stars and moons. You can also visit “Byens Hus”, where you can transform your flashlight into a shining sparkler that you can use at the parade later in the evening.
Magic parade and sparkling light installations
The magical parade goes through the streets of the inner city in order to focus on the light and energy in the universe. Simultaneously, light installations created by students at Roskilde University will illuminate the night sky, Jesper Kongshaug will put the Garden of Roses and Roskilde Cathedral in a whole new light and in Klosterparken at Algade 31 you can experience an interactive light installation for children.
The Festival of Lights is organised by the seven cultural institutions of “Kulturstrøget”: Roskilde Library, Roskilde Monastery, the Museum Group ROMU, the Museum of Contemporary Art, “Kunsthuset Palæfløjen”, Roskilde Cathedral and “Byens Hus”– in close collaboration with Roskilde Municipality and a long list of other actors in Roskilde.
